St. Andrew’s Residence
208 St. Andrew’s Street Residence is a modern, safe housing for people dealing with a significant mental health issue, an addiction or a concurrent disorder. It is a 35 unit apartment building that has proven to be an example of distinction in supportive living. Staff support the tenants 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tenants are able to access a common resource room with an emphasis on building community. There is a Tenants’ Association that the tenants spearhead and a Gardening Club they very much enjoy being involved in.
This residence demonstrates a graduated housing system as many of the clients have gone through several programs of Shepherds of Good Hope prior coming to St. Andrew Residence. They may have started in shelter services when that was their need at the time and then graduated through various stages of housing. Now with the help of staff they are able to enjoy the comforts of their very own apartment with a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, living room and dining area. Each resident takes tremendous pride in their home. Each apartment is clean, well furnished and in excellent shape all thanks to the efforts of the residents.
This building and its occupants illustrate a true example of community. The residents work to keep the grounds beautiful. There are plenty of activities to allow interaction with each other in the spirit of kinship such as, Art in the Parking Lot, Pizza and Hockey Nights, Ladies Makeup and Hair Nights, BBQs and working together on their award winning garden.
