Quota to raise funds for SGH
Harness racing fans will want to mark this date in their calendars.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, the Quota Club of Ottawa is hosting its 18th annual Night at the Races to raise money for Shepherds of Good Hope.
This is the first year SGH will benefit from the event. The money raised is going to be used for the women’s shelter. Tickets are $60. Your ticket gets you a full course buffet dinner, valet parking and a race program. Please call Willy Lee at 613-738-8888 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Quota Club of Ottawa has been serving the community for 69 years.
Anna Silverman, Executive Director of Shepherds of Good Hope Foundation, said she is thrilled Quota is donating proceeds of the event to SGH.
“We care for some of the most in-need women in Ottawa. These funds will help us provide the care and support these women need to transition out of the shelter system and into their own homes.”
The women’s shelter provides care and support services to women 18 years and older who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless for a variety of reasons. Some women become homeless due to dire financial challenges. Others are fleeing an abusive partner and have nowhere else safe to turn to. Some of the women who find themselves homeless are coping with mental health issues.
In addition to providing a safe haven, Shepherds of Good Hope also operate a women’s special care unit where they can visit with health care professionals. They also have access to a variety of outreach workers. There are also women who are participants in SGH’s Managed Alcohol Program and the Worker Program.
Last year, there were more than 500 women who stayed in the shelter. On average, they stayed 16 nights.
